Zeiss Ikon Ikomatic CF
That is it, Wood Grain !

Background

Ikomatic is a series of compact, point & shot cameras from Zeiss Ikon (manufactured by Bilora), that is easy to carry around and with simple control. There were several models :
  • Ikomatic F (1964) - Fixed exposure, using flash bulb
  • Ikomatic CF (1964) - Fixed exposure, using flash cube
  • Ikomatic A (1965) - Auto-exposure control (varied aperture) by selenium photo cell

Design Motif

For Ikomatic CF, camera bodies were produced in 2 finishes, either black leather or wood grain, by using laminated synthetic material. Although wood grain finish appearing in cameras is not very common, there are a few others, e.g. Bell & Howell Autoload (Super 8 movie camera), Voigtlander Vitessa 500 AE Electronic and 500 SE Electronic (1968, marketed under Zeiss Ikon).

Even the camera back is designed neatly, and consistently with the same design motif in using wood grain.

This wood grain design motif was also commonly used in electronic products (refer to the image of SONY's Ad in 70s in the botton of this webpage), furniture, interior design, etc in 70s period.
